A really important part of any bowls club are the friendly fixtures which all members can play in. We play teams from big long established clubs, small 4 rinkers and everything in between. This year we have reduced the number of fixtures so that normally we only have one midweek game (normally on Wednesdays) and one over the weekend. These give all our members the chance to play friendly but still competitive games developing and using their skills but also enjoying the social and interactive element of these games. It gives our newer bowlers the chance to play in matches plus other bowlers the chance to gain experience in different positions (eg 2 and skip) and develop awareness of game strategy and tactics.

We now have just 11 friendly games to go this season and it is really important that we can get out full teams to protect these fixtures for the future and have a really positive end to the 24 season. Unfortunately we have a number of members who are normally stalwarts in the freindlies but who are awating operations, recovering from operations, umpiring county/national events, unwell/injured or have holiday and grandchildren commitments meaning that they are unable to put their names down for matches that they would normally have played in.

I should mention that 4 of our members have played 4 games in 4 days to ensure that we get teams out. The league games finish next week which takes the pressure off but special well done and thank you to Jeannette, Jim, Sue and Martin W. (plus several others have played 3 out of 4 days!!)

SO THIS IS AN APPEAL TO ALL MEMBERS TO CHECK THEIR DIARIES AND PUT THEIR NAMES DOWN FOR THE REMAINING GAMES IF THEY POSSIBLY CAN. YOU CAN PUT YOUR NAMES DOWN ON THE LISTS AT THE CLUB HOUSE OR EMAIL TO [email protected] or complete the availability form at the foot of the 2024 Fixtures page on the website.

These are the August games (all 4 triples with the exception of the Ladies game v Charing)
