End of Season Bits and Pieces
Biddenden Bowls Club
With just one week to go until we “close the green” it’s time for an update.
Fun Tournament – Thursday 30th September
Gather at 12noon so that the draw can be made– should finish late afternoon. Fun event (see recent newsletter) – tournament, corner to corner, raffle, tea and cake, and lots of chat and laughter – any queries please speak to Paul. This is the last chance to bowl outdoors at Biddenden in 2021 so please do come along and take part.
Friday 1st October to Friday 8th October – Various work activities at the green.
Scarifying, spiking, mowing, weeding, taking out and cleaning ditch liners, sorting equipment and stores, put away benches and seats, sort changing rooms. This will be a busy time and we ask all members who can to volunteer their services. This really is a “many hands make light work” situation. Work will start on the morning of the 1st and there will be work crews down on other days. Please can you let Paul or Jim know when you are able to come along and help. Remember also that green and surrounds maintenance including daily brushing continues right through the winter to ensure that everything is ready to start bowling again in April 2022.
Presentation Evening – Friday 22nd October 7pm – Biddenden Village Hall
In the light of feedback from members about the timing of the presentation evening and the ongoing closure of London Beach (where we have gone in recent years) we are planning to have a slightly different presentation evening this year. We will be having a Fish and Chip Supper followed by the presentation of the cups/trophies/awards. Bring your own beverages!! Veggie and Glutton Free Options are available but will need to be pre-ordered. The cost for the evening will be £10 per person which will cover the cost of the fish and chips and the hall hire. Please put the date in your diary and let us know if you will be attending by emailing [email protected] or WhatsApp Kim or Denise.
A short fun element is being planned and we will be holding a small raffle to raise funds for the club. We hope that all members and other halves (who are not members) will come along to make this a really good evening and to congratulate our club competition winners and runners up.
AGM Tuesday 16th November 2021
This is a really important event for the club. Members need to attend so that they can be updated on the outcomes of the 2021 season, have their say on matters affecting the club's future, vote to elect the new committee; agree subscriptions and fees, and consider any other resolutions. This will be held at Biddenden Village Hall and will start at 7pm. Full details will be published on the website later in October.
Nominations for the committee are needed to ensure key positions are covered and that it really does represent all elements of the club. Positions include Chair and vice chair, Secretary, Treasurer, Competitions Secretary, Fixture Secretary, Captain and Vice Captain, Welfare Officer as well as general committee members. Over 2021 we have run without a secretary with Jeannette and Kim picking up much of the role and our fixture secretary and competitions secretary are stepping down. The committee makes the day to day decisions about our club and the workload does need to be shared. Can you help? Support for any of the roles will be provided. The nomination form is at the clubhouse.
Thursday 7th October 11am – Meeting at Club House – County Competitions and what they are all about
Entries for the county knockout and one day competitions need to be submitted by mid November. To find out more about the competitions and how they work/run, please come along on 7th October for a coffee and chat. If you can’t make the 7th but want to know more or want to enter, please let us know on [email protected].
Final date for now – December 10th Friday 7pm
Christmas Social/Get together – still in the planning stage but watch this space.
